Probably it's on because of the reg entry, so I'm left with the best option being configure the reg entry only and leave this policy not configured. So same result with all 3 configs! Begs the question, what's the point of this setting.?! If i leave this as Not Configured, the slider is ON and configurable on the client.

I've tried it with all three of the available options:Ġ - Use the default windows update notifications: Slider is off and greyed outġ - Turn off all notifications, excluding restart warnings: Slider is off and greyed outĢ - Turn off all notifications, including restart warnings: Slider is off and greyed out. It's "Display options for update notifications", which makes perfect sense, actually, but it's not behaving as I expect based on the documentation. Seems like an admin templates policy is overriding it though. Sorry Adam, I should have linked your article too as I've used it a few times! Yes those are the reg entries I've got added. So I'm wondering if there's another administrative templates policy in my GPO that's causing this to be greyed out and off?ĭoes anyone have any suggestions, before I start randomly flipping Windows Update policy switches in trial and error?!

Thinking about it though, GPO-based Registry edits don't usually grey out options, they often just set them on the next restart. I even tried adding the "RestartNotificationsAllowed" entry as well, although this is apparently for 1809 and earlier. I followed the instructions here to add the "RestartNotificationsAllowed2" registry entry with a value of 1 for ON.

The weird thing is, based on my GPO setup, I'm expecting it to be ON and greyed out. On my own laptop, the option in Settings > Update & Security > Advanced Options > Update Notifications > "Show a notification when your PC requires a restart to finish updating" We're almost Win10 1909 across the board, with a couple of laptops straggling on 1803 / 1809.
